In-dependence to INDEPENDENCE---For our better future

On 14th August, nation celebrated 64th Independence Day of Pakistan with great simplicity and modesty. There were no official ceremonies, no programs were organized at the state level, buildings were not lit up with colourful lights. Except few young lads who performed motorbike wheeling stunts on roads or did air shooting at various places, the whole nation was in a gloomy mood. When disasters are hitting one after another how can one be happy or cheerful. But living nations never kneel down in front of disaster. They fight it and overcome it with their united thought, united spirit and united acts. We also need to have a spirit and vision of Allama Iqbal’s Shaheen & Auqab. We yet need to become a real nation and this is our only destiny and survival.

About 20 million people have become homeless and thousands have lost their lives. Tens and thousands of home has been wiped away, crops and livestock has been destroyed and we have not yet been able to make any national policy to deal with this emergency situation. No one is ready to sit together and talk about these common and crucial issues. United Nations has declared that the impact of these floods in Pakistan is way much more than the tsunami, Pakistan and Haiti’s earthquakes. As per UN’s recent report, in 2005’s earthquake in Pakistan, nearly 3 million people got affected, In Haiti’s earthquake 3 million people were affected and in Tsunami 2006, 5 million people were affected. However, so far 20 million people have been affected by these floods alone in Pakistan.

In fact, we are all busy discussing Mr. Zardari at the moment about his visits abroad and the money he has spent lavishly which is useless to give attention at the moment. He has done what he wanted to do. The money spent on his trips is not going to come back and the "Respect and Honour" which he wanted to gain he gained, you know what I mean. But it is now a time to focus on the people who are in the need of our direct and prompt help. They are waiting for food, shelter, clothing, drinking water, medicines, dry milk for infants etc etc., the list goes on and on. Our politicians have not yet come up with any concrete plan or solution to deal with this disaster. They are just a bunch of useless backbencher who obtained their degree through fallacious means. Therefore, the incapacity and incompetency of our politicians is quite evident from their ill-planning. There is no direction, there is no leadership, everyone is doing help on his own and we have been failed to act like a nation. Someone very rightly said that we are not a nation but a crowd. 64 years ago a nation fought for this country, but today there is a country but no nation.

It’s time to start thinking to bring about a change in the system. All those people who have now realized that 'enough is enough' must join hands and voices against the stereotype political system. All of our current politician talk about "Democracy", but have not clue what democracy is. They do not want to bring this democracy to their parties because this threatens their role as a leader. They are afraid that their power will be challenged with in the party if they call for elections in the party before bringing a real "Democracy" to the country. Let us change this system. Let us start this change process from our friends, relatives and family members. Until and unless our political system is not changed for better and we do not become one nation, our problems will keep growing like a cancer and then no one will come out to help us. Don’t waste time and let’s change our destiny from In-dependence to INDEPENDENCE for our better future.
