When a society becomes insensitive towards its human and moral values, when its leaders and elders are not afraid of committing frauds and corruption in front of their youth, when people quench their thirst of revenge with the blood of innocents, when people stop caring about its countrymen when any natural calamity hits them, when the sport celebrities of the country are not afraid of getting caught red-handed, then its means there is something seriously wrong with the mindset of the whole society.
These days Pakistan is facing the same dilemma and it seems as everything is moving in the wrong direction. We have a government, but no leadership; we have institutions, but no planning; we have law enforcement agencies but no rule of law; we have independent judiciary but no justice; we have a constitution but no implementation; we have the best irrigation and canal system, but still people are being ruined in floods; we are an agrarian country but people have no food; we have 180 million people but no national spirit; we call ourselves Pakistanis but have no dignity and respect for our motherland.
The tragic incident of Sialkot in which two young brothers were brutally murdered by a mob brought tremendous humiliation and disgrace to our country. It was not over yet and we are faced with another insulting and embarrasing scandalous event of spot fixing by our cricketing stars. The whole Pakistani nation is in the spot light at the moment and everyone is viewing Pakistan as a home of criminal and corrupt people.
It's time to wake up now. A proper investigation should be carried out against all involved in this cricket spot-fixing scam regardless of their ranks and positions and the convicts should be brought to justice. They must be given severe punishments, so that no one else could dare to repeat it in future. All those found guilty of corruption or any other henious crime should not be spared at all, no matter if they are in the governemnt, bureaucracy, management or at any other level. Now is the time for a new leadership to emerge and take the charge of the affairs of this country. We as a nation should commit overselves to stamp out corruption, extremism and intolerance from the roots of our society. It is time to shut those big mouths that give us nothing, but only slogans.
Despite of this disillusioning enviornment in the country, I am still hopeful for the future and believe that Pakistan will come out of these testing times and there will be a day when it will be in the line of those countries where people respect humanity, live in peace and harmony, honour and keep its moral and ethical values.
